About

Welcome to the Manoa Public Library! Designed by architect Gary Kawakami of Architecture Plus, Inc., and built by Allied Pacific Builders on the site of the original library, our $10.3 million replacement library opened on June 9, 2012. Our environmentally-friendly library features free Wi-Fi, computer laptop area, separate programming room, photovoltaic solar panels, high-efficiency air-conditioning system, and covered parking for cars and bicycles. In 2013, Manoa Public Library was awarded the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

“Year of the Forest Birds” Informational Talk

2024 is officially Ka Makahiki o Nā Manu Nahele (Year of the Forest Birds). A specialist from the American Bird Conservancy Hawai‘i Program will share information about Hawai‘i’s birds, the threats they face, and efforts to resist extinction. The interactive program will also allow you to hear the different birdsongs, watch a brief documentary featuring hula and other practices related to forest birds, take a virtual field trip to a conservation center, and view some creative clips of a youth video challenge on forest birds. Stickers and activity sheets will be offered.

This free one-hour event is suitable for ages 5 and older.

Crochet Workshop: Flower Coaster

Join the Mānoa Public Library’s YA Librarian workshop on crocheting your own flower coaster for the summer break. You are welcome to bring your own supplies, but they will be provided.

Workshop is recommended for intermediate crocheters who are familiar with the basic stitches of crochet.

RSVP is required,please sign up below on our website.

This workshop has an availability of 10 slots and is open to all ages, however, priority will be given to teens (12 years old to 17 years old). Any participant outside the age range will be put on a waitlist and will be contacted for available slots. Children under 8 must be accompanied by parent/caregiver but will be counted for one slot.

Make Your Own Slime!

Join us for a “sun-tastic” activity this summer by making your very own slime in your favorite color to take home!

If you’d like, add some flair to your slime, with sun beads that change color when exposed to the UV rays of the sun, glitter, and other fun add-ins.

Recommended for children ages 6 and up. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

UNCLE WAYNE AND THE HOWLING DOG BAND

Musician and early education specialist, Wayne Watkins and his Howling Dog Band are known for their fun, educational, and entertaining programs. Get ready to laugh, dance, and sing along in this high-energy event.

Since 2010, Uncle Wayne and the Howling Dog Band has been barnstorming Hawaii’s libraries, schools and festivals, creating a musical ruckus with every show. Their original songs, a unique blend of island flavored bluegrass, folk and blues make children and their grownups want to dance and sing along.

Suitable for all ages! Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

Air Dry Clay Workshop

Want something to remind you about this year’s summer? Join the Mānoa Public Library’s YA Librarian for an air dry clay workshop. Come and design a small charm or sculpture (3 x 3 x 3 inches) using air dry clay.

You are welcome to bring your own supplies, but they will be provided while supplies last. No paints or painting will be done during the workshop.

Recommended to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty with clay.

Looking for something to do during the summer? You are invited to challenge the YA librarian on Video Games Day! Bring a friend or a family member to come to hang out and socialize with others while playing some video games. Compete or work alongside other players.
